Troubleshooting
Ion Rule Fails to Engage
Section titled “Ion Rule Fails to Engage”You may encounter a scenario in which Ion fails to engage on one or websites based on rules created.
The following points may guide you to a resolution:
-
Review system prerequisites
-
Check to see that the target computer meets the performance and storage requirements to run Ion.
-
Confirm that .NET 3.5 SP1 or later is installed on the computer running the Browsium Client.
-
-
Verify the installation files
-
If you are using a computer where both Ion Configuration Manager and Ion Client are present, ensure that they are installed and running.
-
If you are using a computer where only Browsium Client is installed, verify that it is correctly installed and running.
-
Ensure matching versions of Ion Configuration Manager and Browsium Client are installed
- If you installed previous versions of Ion, make sure that you are using Ion Configuration Manager for which the Major, Minor, and Update numbers match that of the Browsium Client currently installed on a target machine.
-
Confirm the Browsium Client executable files are running
-
Check to see that the Browsium Controller (BrowsiumController.exe) and Browsium Monitor (BrowsiumMonitor.exe) are running on the client PC.
-
Verify the Ion Broker process (BrowsiumIonBroker.exe) is running when a rule has been invoked for a full Profile. Note that Global Java Profiles do not invoke the Ion Broker process.
-
-
Ensure the Browsium Internet Explorer Extension is enabled
-
Confirm the Browsium Internet Explorer Extension is seen and loaded by Internet Explorer.
-
Open Internet Explorer and open the Manage Add-Ons dialog. Do you see the Browsium Internet Explorer Extension installed? Is it enabled?
-
An Internet Explorer instance that correctly loads the Browsium Client will display the following information in the Manage Add-Ons dialog:
{width=“4.875602580927384in” height=“1.0813834208223971in”}
-
Ensure the Microsoft Edge (Chromium) extension is enabled
- If using Microsoft Edge (Chromium) to load Profiles using Edge Internet Explorer Mode, confirm the Edge extension is installed and enabled.
-
Contact Browsium support
- Contact the Browsium Support team for one-on-one guidance.
Correct Profile Does Not Load for a Web Site
Section titled “Correct Profile Does Not Load for a Web Site”If you are experiencing an issue where a specific Ion Profile does not load for one or more web sites, the following steps may help resolve your issue.
-
Check that you have rule covering the website or web application in question.
a. If testing locally, try removing any older settings by using the Clear Test Configuration file menu option, then Start Test Configuration. Also ensure the system is not being prevented from loading the Test Configuration as a result of Group Policy settings being applied. See the Understanding Ion Project Registry Locations section for more information.
-
Open the Task Manager and check that the BrowsiumController.exe (Browsium Controller), the BrowsiumIonBroker.exe (Ion Broker) processes are running.
-
In Internet Explorer, open the Manage Add-Ons window, and check that the Browsium Internet Explorer Extension is enabled. Your configuration should match the configuration in the screenshot below:
{width=“4.987525153105862in” height=“1.1062073490813649in”}
If using Edge Internet Explorer Mode for application management, confirm the Microsoft Edge (Chromium) extension is installed and enabled:
{width=“6.5in” height=“0.7722222222222223in”}
Ion Not Working Properly in IE6 or IE7
Section titled “Ion Not Working Properly in IE6 or IE7”Browsium Ion is only supported on Internet Explorer 8, 9, 10, and 11 as well as Edge Internet Explorer Mode within Microsoft Edge (Chromium) so you may see unexpected behavior when trying to install and run Ion with other versions of Internet Explorer or different browsers.
Ion Not Working Properly on Windows 8
Section titled “Ion Not Working Properly on Windows 8”Browsium Ion is only supported for the desktop version of Internet Explorer included with Windows 8. By design, Ion is unable to integrate with the Modern (aka ‘Metro’) version of Internet Explorer.
Error — ‘Reinstall Microsoft Edge’
Section titled “Error — ‘Reinstall Microsoft Edge’”Edge IE Mode does not work properly with Ion (or you experience inconsistent behavior) and receive a message saying to reinstall Edge in administrator mode:
Edge must be installed into Program Files (and not into a user profile) for Edge IE Mode to work properly. In addition, ensure the machine you are using has all needed updates to run Edge IE Mode. Please see this page for more information: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/edge-ie-mode
